David Hasselhoff revealed in a chat with Mirror Online that the Knight Rider could be riding once again, and sooner than we think.

He also admitted talks had stalled nearly a decade ago when he looked a reviving the show because "they didn't want me to do it."

Fans have been waiting for any news ever since The Hoff said he was working with director James Gunn on getting the rights back in 2017.

It would have made sense, with shows like Magnum PI and Dynasty all getting a second go, 80s was back in fashion.

Mirror Online spoke to The Hoff about his new Audible Original book Up Against The Wall , which is out now, telling the story of a spy that switches places with The Hoff.

But we couldn't resist asking about Knight Rider and if things have moved along, turns out the answer is yes.

"We talked about another series about eight to nine years ago," he said. "But they wanted to do it without me."

The Hoff said he pitched various ideas, "I even said I didn't have to be the lead," he said. "I didn't even need to be in it that much, I could cameo or something, but they didn't listen.

"I wanted to tell them what the morals behind Knight Rider were, the morals behind Baywatch and why they worked!"

It was far more recently though that the Knight Rider reboot came up -  on his honeymoon.

"I was on my honeymoon and this guy said to be 'You know why Knight Rider is so popular?' so I said 'Why?' he told me 'You put your morals into Knight Rider and into Baywatch, that's why they are popular.'

"I thought, yes that's true!"

He added: "I don't need to be brave and fight like Knight Rider, or swim like in Baywatch, it's not that, it's about why they do it."

When we asked him if that meant Knight Rider was on or off the cards, he paused: "I'm not supposed to say anything, but stay tuned.

"The Knight Rider will ride again!"

Hasselhoff admitted he'd been told not to say anything on the topic but he was "too excited" to wait for them to make the announcement.

So could we see Knight Rider as a new series, or an audio book maybe? Will we finally get that revival that's been rumoured for so long?

We'll have to wait and see, in the mean time The Hoff is busy promoting his audiobook Up Against The Wall, available on Audible in the UK and USA.

The story is set in 1989 - the same year The Hoff performed at the Wall - following the end of the Cold War. CIA Agent Nick Harper is the doppelganger for The Hoff, who he gets mistaken for

The real David Hasselhoff arrives in West Berlin to play a sold-out show before a hundred thousand adoring German fans, but finds himself caught up in the spy game as he's mistaken for Harper.

"It's a real spy thriller," The Hoff said. "It's got sad moments, adventure and fun, but it's also telling you about what really happened."

Up Against The Wall is on Audible.
